  • 2008
  • Being a sportsman of international repute, Mr. Avtar Singh always had a desire to come back to sports as a coach in his second innings. A chance to coach state level cycling team of people with intellectual disability made him realize his true calling. This made him set up his own school to guide and mentor children with intellectual disability and help them become independent through competitive and joyful sports. He started off with three special students in the house offered by his father, Mr. Mahan Singh at Sonari.

  • 2009
  • JEEVIKA was officially inaugurated by Mr. Bailey Bodhanwalla on 14th Aug 2009 with an objective of making people with intellectual disability independent and equipped enough to earn their 'Aajeevika' (Livelihood in Hindi). We had Mrs. Sunita Sinha (Principal Gulmohar School) as guest of honour to boost our morale.

  • 2010
  • Celebrated “World Health Day” and honored three JEEVIKA students for winning 1 Gold, 1 Silver and 3 Bronze medals in the National Competitions organized by Special Olympics Bharat.

  • 2011
  • Successfully celebrated all the National festivals including World Disability Day within JEEVIKA premises to usher in joy and festivities in the otherwise monotonous life of the students. Started providing government facilities like disability certificates etc. to our students. JEEVIKA Committee also decided to protect the potters who were at a risk of extinction.

  • 2012
  • Requested Doctors, Advocates and social activists of Jamshedpur to support JEEVIKA as it was becoming difficult to run the school without financial support. The Raymond Shop, Bistupur agreed to sponsor uniform for all our students henceforth. I.D cards were distributed to our students. Mr. T.V. Narendran inaugurated our very first Diya sale. The diyas had been bought from potters and then painted, decorated and packed by our students.

  • 2013
  • Increased the intake of students and started sensitizing students from nearby schools and colleges like Carmel junior College, Graduate College, Balichela School, Bharat Sevashram Sangh, DBMS, Gulmohar High School, Jamshedpur Women’s College etc. by organizing Unified Sports with them. This also gave the confidence to students to merge with the main stream.

  • 2014
  • Opened joint bank accounts for our students with their parents to regulate the direct benefits of the Govt. Scholarships (Like Swami Vivekananda Scholarships etc.) Organized sports activities with Military Camp, XLRI, Body Mind Awareness Center, Lion’s Club, Rotary Club and nearby villages to sensitize people. Help in means obtained from these organizations proved to be of big help to us.

  • 2015
  • Started getting results - Natural Resource Division of Tata Steel donated several items to be used in JEEVIKA's echo-friendly projects (Paper - bags, Gift bags, envelops). Various organizations like Rotary Femina, Ladies Circle-Jamshedpur, Field Regiment, Military camp, JUSCO, Tata Pigment, Other Clubs etc. were impressed with the working of JEEVIKA and came forward to help us.

  • 2016
  • Number of students increased to 24. Almost all JEEVIKA students started getting Swami Vivekananda scholarships of Rs. 600/- per month in their joint bank accounts opened earlier. Four students got employment in private enterprises. One of our student got 2 Gold medals in 400M and 800M in the National Competitions organized by Special Olympics Bharat.

  • Two more students got employed with private grocery shop.
